ABOUT US

MISSION AND HISTORY

The KenTra Care Organization was founded in 2012 by our President Sharon Roberts.   We are a 501(c)3 organization who's mission is to provide services and support to incarcerated women, incarcerated youth, care receivers (ex-offenders) and their families. We seek to fulfill this mission throughout the DMV area. We create opportunities for people to transform their lives by fostering behavioral changes that promote personal responsibility, healthy relationships and positive contributions to society.

Our goal at KenTra Care is to provide services and connect individuals with resources in the DMV community and beyond that are needed to return successfully back into society and into the community after incarceration. We accomplish this through programs that provide:

  • Collaboration with Assigned Probation Officers or Case Workers

  • A “Fresh Start” Care Package upon release that includes basic necessities

  • Life skills training, along with employment readiness assistance referrals

  • GED Referral Program and with assisting in further education

  • Mental health referrals and prisoner re-entry services

  • Social Services Referrals

  • Mentoring programs for children of incarcerated women

  • Spiritual Guidance

  • Expungement Assistance

Our purpose and goals are to:

  • Provide female ex-offenders support and assistance they need to become self-sufficient and responsible as they re-enter the community

  • Provide emotional tools that gives opportunity to embrace a new life

  • To give women the skills and experience they need to successfully live as citizens and employees after they transition from state correctional facilities into their home communities

    • An emphasis is placed on reducing their risks of re-offending and on increasing their positive outcomes.

    • Positive outcomes include attributes such as

      • Being employed in high growth/high demand careers

      • Reunifying with their families

      • Using effective parenting skills

      • Having stable post release housing

      • Remaining drug and alcohol free

      • Having pro-social friends and activities

      • Being active citizens in their community
